2 m@ŋ¥ fª|<é gîŔIş What does compressing Local Disk (C:) to save disk space actually do? - 2 m@ŋ¥ fª|<é gîŔIş What does compressing do? What difference in performance would I notice if I were to compress my hard drive.
Best Answer: When your pc compresses files, it removes extra information within the files, making them smaller without compromising the file's integrity. It "zips" them to a degree, like MP3's are compressed or zipped songs that still play about the same. By shrinking the files that you rarely use, your pc is able more quickly access those files that you do use. Imagine a drawer crammed full of wadded up shirts - some you wear a lot and others you almost never do. By rolling up the shirts you almost never wear and cramming them in the far back of the drawer, you are able to go through the shirts that you do wear much more quickly. It's kind-of like that. - Keep Smiling!

When compressing your Local Disk, it reduces a little a bit of spaced used on your local disk. If your computer is a bit slow, it can increase performance . The difference would be you would see your computer run fast and you would have more space on your Hard drive for more files . - Sean
what do u mean by compressing.i think u r saying disk defragmentation.it arranges the data in the sectors in an order.whenever u delete the data the sectors occupied by it will be left and the new data u add to ur system starts adding from the next sector.defragmentation sorts out everything.it enhances the speed at which the system works. - Aries ...........
compressing a HDD or your C:\ would increase the performance of your pc, but you wouldn't notice this actually if you don't have a simulating tester that will differentiate the performance. In reality it helps to boost your performance than the HDD that is not compress. - gecker
