bk7794 If i replace a 200w power supplywith a 500w power supply will that fry that motherboard? - bk7794
Best Answer: It is a good choice to upgrade. The 'w' (watt) is the maximum output the power supply can give. 500w would definitely be better. Note, the power supply will only deliver as much power as your PC needs (and not more). The 'w' mentioned is the maximum capacity of the power supply, so with 200w you had limitations (and possibly issues like overheating as the fans received less power). - mybizstreet

no you can even put a 1200w power supply - C:\WINDOWS\viruses
Power is "drawn" not "pushed". If you tried to "draw" 500W off of 200W supply, then you might fry something. Not the other way around. It's always good to have extra power available to meet the need. You'll be fine. - donna s
Watt means power not tepmerature. It will let you connect mode high power consuming devices to your computer such as bigger fans, graphic card. other card, usb devices, hard drives and so on. If you go to my profile by clicking my picture you will see a link to my website "Windows Secrets" - hp
Absolutely not. It should be just fine. Although 500W may be overkill if your computer survived a while with 200W, you'll find that the 500W power supply will last much longer. - dylyluv
