Are Mac's really better then PC"S? - Halt WHY?

Best Answer: Mac's really are on par with PC's, and here's why. Apple controls everything about the user experience from the ground up. It's a wild ride because they focus not on product, but on participation. Because the Mac OS (OS X) doesn't have to support every kind of hardware vendor (Apple controls the hardware design of their products), they can focus on doing their own hardware and doing it well. (Mac's just work.) Engineers at Apple concentrate on ease-of-use. So you don't have a huge learning curve, you sort-of know how to do upon opening the box. Product design includes packaging, so from the moment you open the box, you're ushered in to a wonderful relationship with the company. They've made complex technology more reliable and easier to use because of this focus. I can buy a Mac at a retail location or via the Internet and know how to use the software, because the software engineers and programmers at Apple have designed software that runs well on hardware designed by Apple. The software is the intellectual property of Apple Computer. But the hardware and the medium on which the software is recorded, is ours. There is hardware and software available for every pupose, here's the proof. Word Processing? In iWork, Pages. It is the best word processor I've ever used. Spreadsheet? Microsoft Excel, part of Office. (Or Numbers, part of iWork.) Photo app, consumer level: iLife, iPhoto. Professional-level photo app: Aperture. Music? iTunes (combined with Airport Express, which let's you stream music wirelessly to your hi-fi stereo speaker setup in the house via Monster Cable) provides a database of musical inspiration that can fill the house with music. Email? Entourage, Mac Mail or WebMail. Macs come with Front Row, an amazing addition to the experience. Front Row lets me view Movie Trailers and listen to music or view my photo collection via Apple Remote. Combined with Apple TV, the potential is phenomenal (I haven't purchased Apple TV yet). But I get the idea. Apple values diversity, and this is reflected in the kind of experience I receive from the company. The technical support I've received from Apple is first-rate. Which is ironic, because Apple systems don't break down. The resources that they placed at my fingertips, have over awed me. And I never wonder where the intelligence is. In my opinions PC's are way better. I've worked with Macs and PC's for a long time, and I really can't stand Mac OSX. It's still a hell of a lot better than Mac OS9 Windows is better. - Link

Better for what? Let me say that I'm a sysadmin, on a network of PC's, linux boxes, and Mac's. Mac have their advantages, and their disadvantages, just like PC's do. Every tool is better at something, screwdriver for turning, hammer for bashing. I'm not going to bash either side. Mac's are very good for people who haven't spent any time with other computers. They make getting started very easy, and they put nice window dressing around the deeper, darker areas where real knowledge is required. As a result, they have been the standard in prepress, graphics, and video production houses. Some universities are quite fond of them too. PC's are good for people who need to work with other PC's and mainstream systems used in business (not saying that Mac's can't or won't, just that it is still harder). PC's have a tremendous advantage in gaming, but then so do the Wii and Xbox360. PC's will cost less for the same performance levels, and are more expandable. Mac's have fewer software options, for almost any given category, and the individual titles tend to cost more. - craigool

It all really depends what you are using them for. Gaming: PC > Mac Media: PC < Mac Personally I perfer PC's because they are PC's, because even though they don't last as long they are MUCH cheaper than Mac's. Mac's are designed to last for 6-8 years, but because of that and some company policies they cost 2x as much to build. - paenumbra

In the past the MACs had the best graphical design programs (Adobe was their main third party software provider), and outperformed the PC's in floating point operations. But that changed since the arrival of powerful FPU units and streaming SIMD extensions by AMD and Intel for the PC and the advent of similar programs to that of the MAC. Since Apple has ditched the PowerPC processors in favor of Intel X86 architecture, you can say that MACs are now almost equal to any other PC, just with another OS and a slew of propietary stuff. - Wilford_Brimley

Let's see, 118,000 current Windows viruses, and best estimates are that there will be a million within 5 years. At present zero released MacOs X viruses. Why spend your time running an anti-virus program when you can be working? - Kahless

Mac is more toward music and video editing and PC is more business application. Mac doesn't have alot of third party developers, however, Mac can run both window and Mac OS on the same computer and can read window file format without problem. PC on the other hand forget about open a Mac file. The darn thing won't read. - John M

not really macs are just PC with a different OS If you are the sort of person who likes being led by the nose, get a mac I have a macbook and the reason I bought it I was in the market for a small laptop with a decent battery life and it was the right price. I find them equally good (or if one is slightly better, then it is Mac). But PC wins by far if you see the amount of softwares you get for PC and Mac. With PC you definitely have more choice of softwares. - mybizstreet

its all what you prefer. if your a gamer though I would stick with windows. saying pcs are better then mac or macs are better then pcs. is like asking are dogs better then cats? is white better then wheat? xbox better then ps3? its all personal preference. both can be reliable as long as you keep things updated and watch what you download - christoph r
