Emmers What the "F" do the F keys do on a laptop - F1, F2, F3, F4 etc?? - Emmers
Best Answer: The F keys on a laptop do the same things they would do on a desktop. Some programs require use of the F keys, or your windows system has the typical shortcuts. (F1 for Help, Alt-F4 for shutdown, etc). - Norumu
they're hte "function" keys, each one has a different function depending on the program your using or with windows itself. F1 is normally a help menu, F3 when used in a dos is repeat last line, Alt+F4 closes your active window. Also depending on your keyboard you can program the F keys to do alternate functions, and some keyboards have a preset function they'll do if you turn off the "F-Lock" option. Like F2 is MS Excel, F3 is a calendar, F4 -F6 are user set options, F7 is IE, F8 is MSN messenger F9 is Outlook etc. etc. on my keyboard. - taralone
Also, if you hold down the FN key (usually in the lower left of the keyboard), and then press a function key, you will access other functions like adjusting volume, media player control, etc. - TCB
It represents the word "Function" Each laptop has different features so check out your user manual!!!! hold the fn key on the bottom left and the tap one of the "f" keys and it will perform a function. - Notebook Tech
Hmm, well those are the Functions keys and usually certain programs have certain function keys do certain functions. For example, if you hist F5 right now, this page should refresh. Other function keys have different functions depending on the software. Hope this helps. Let me know if there's anything else. Thanks, Abdurrahman Qadan - simple
