Question and Answers

tedfromwi No Sound from Xbox 360 through surround sound system? - tedfromwi Xbox connected through tv with hdmi cable. TV connected to surround sound with optical audio cable. So in theory all audio input to my TV (HDMI carrys the audio from xbox 360 to TV) should play out through surround sound system since all audio is forced out through optical audio cable. What am I missing since there is no audio when I play my xbox 360? I will give points to the first person to help me.
Best Answer: I would bet that the optical out on your TV doesn't actually send out everything that is going to your tv, but sends only the digital audio for your built-in digital tv tuner. You probably have to run an optical cable directly from your xbox to your AV receiver. Also, If your AV receiver has HDMI inputs and an output, run your xbox HDMI to the AV receiver first, then your AV receiver HDMI out to the TV. - J W
Connect optical cable from Xbox to receiver, not from TV to receiver. - BANG P
You need to determine what audio input source is coming into your TV from the Xbox. Just because XBOX has an HDMI cable output does not mean the sound is actually being sent through the HDMI. That is why their is an optical port on the XBOX console is well so that the sound can go out through a separate/dedicated channel. The optical cable needs to go from the XBox to the TV (if there is an Optical In) or directly to the Input on the Surround system. - Brad/Diana B
You may need to make sure the audio and video caBles are on the same input. Most TVs are not wired to have just any cables put in. To find out which audio ports your connected to ur going to need to flip through all your video inputs on your tv. - .
