alind b How much actual space (MB'S) should be in a 8GB SANDISK Cruiser pendrive? - alind b i purchased a 8GB SANDISK CRUISER pendrive when i pluged it in my computer ,it showed only 7.4 GB of space ,please tell me is it OK? please tell ,is their any mistake in pendrive or,this pendrive have 7.4GB of space, i mean it's 530 MB less ? please help , thanks in advance!
Best Answer: Just divide the stated space by (1.024)cube. That means You should get 7.45Gb. The real fact is, Any disk manufacturer counts Kb as 1000bytes, Mb as 1000Kb, GB as 1000Mb. But the all digits are really 1024. So Stated 8Gb means 8,000,000,000bytes. Divide it by 1024 thrice, and you get the answer. This formula applies to every pen-drive &H.D.D. Look, 4.7Gb DVD-R gives 4.38Gb. - arupbsk@gmail.com
yeah,, the rest you do not see, is in the setup. that does take some space from you. chill... - Jasper
The reason for the missing space is the software that comes on the drive. Even if you delete the Cruzer software the drive still has to have software so when it is plugged in the computer recognizes it
That's normal. Computers sees 1 gigabyte as 1024 megabytes and 1 megabyte as 1024 kilobytes. But in the marketing world, 1 gigabyte = 1000 megabytes. and 1 megabyte as 1000 KB. That's why you'll see less when you plug it in. this ebay guide explains why advertised hard drive sizes don't really reflect on how much you can actually use: http://reviews.ebay.com/Why-Hard-Drive-Capacity-Differs-From-Advertised-Sizes_W0QQugidZ10000000004624235 - MaskedMusketeer
