Question and Answers

hi Virtual memory question?!? - hi I have the sims 3 and I read somewhere that you can up your virtual memory using like a flash drive but I am not sure if I should do that... I clicked on the control panel, System, Advanced, Performance settings, Advanced, Virtual Memory then change and it says my Initial Size is 1536 MB and my Maximum size is 3072....what would happen if I changed it to like 2000? Is that too high? Would it make my sims game run faster?
Best Answer: Hi, Changing the Virtual Memory definitely improves the performance of your system. As you have mentioned that you have 1 GB of RAM, it is always advised to have minimum double the amount of Virtual Memory, so in your case the Initial size can be 2048 & maximum should be 3072. However if you have ample amount of space in the drive you can increase the same to 4096 as well. PS:Be double sure to select the maximum size as that amount will be like completely blocked for managing system processes. Update / Email in case you have any queries. Wireless..:) -
Get more main RAM, the virtual memory is too slow. Getting a graphics card with faster or more VRAM, will improve performance. - sashawhitefur
For 1Gb of RAM that's enough when i had 512Mb of RAM it was automatically set on 768 and max 1536(which is exact half of ur memory with 1Gb RAM) so if u make it more than this u wont see any difference But just to fulfill ur curiosity TRY putting 2048 in minimum and 4096 in max i tried it but didnt had any difference cuz i had 512mb RAM may be u will have some difference!!! --- GOOD LUCK ----
changing or optimizing the virtual memory can help increase performance because it speeds up how fast you can read and write to your drive. make sure you have enough free space on your hard drive to handle it first. Oh, and don't forget to defrag your hard disc, because that will speed it up too!! - Guitar WarLord.com
