Best Answer: If you are using an HDMI cable unplug the XBox dongle cord that has the TV/HDTV switch on it. That may be confusing the Xbox into thinking you are sending audio out of the red and white cables instead of out the HDMI cable. The HDMI cable from the 360 to the TV should now be sending both video and audio signals out the TV speakers. If it is the Yamaha receiver you want audio out of, you will have to route audio to it somehow from the Xbox. Without upgrading to a surround receiver that has HDMI inputs I would recommend the following: 1. Completely remove the HDMI cable from both components and instead plug the Xbox TV/HDTV dongle back in. Plug the Red/Green/Blue video cables on it into the TV (put the Red/White audio cables into the TV as well if you ever will want XBox audio to come out the TV speakers). 2. Plug a digital optical cable ($15 at Wal-mart or Target) into the TV/HDTV dongle on the 360 and then into the Yamaha for Xbox digital surround sound on the Yamaha. Note that the R/G/B "Component" video cables you plugged in will still allow you to do up to 1080i resolution (be sure to confirm this in your Xbox settings) on the Hitachi for video quality as good as HDMI. This will get you by until you get a newer surround receiver with HDMI plugs. Best of luck. - Chris Knight
Make sure the Audio (red chord) is plugged in the HD slot.
make sure the components are plugged in to the rite spot - I Live 4 Sundays
