jmlove Why is my computer saying there is less space on the hard drive ? - jmlove My comp was very slow I deleted a lot of programs etc. installed advanced system care cleaned it up my comp is super fast now but it says there is 20 gigs less than there originally was- every time I delete something there is less space , is it a glitch? or something is wrong.. i have vista btw
Best Answer: Vista saves system restore files on your C: drive. If you turn system restore off, reboot, then turn it back on again, you will see the space come back, because it will erase all previous restore files. - Figbash
you should cut down the amount of space your computer is using to back-up your files, it will clear up a lot of space. To check this go to command prompt and type in:(make sure you right click and hit run as administrator) vssadmin list shadowstorage -that shows you how much space your computer is using up to save back-up files if you want to add more space to your hard-drive type in: vssadmin /resize shadowstorage for=C: /on=C: /maxsize=[number to reduce to MB/GB] the minimum is 300MB. I have mine set to the minimum 300MB because Vista Home Premium does not come with software to back files up so it is just a waste of space, before I did this my computer was using over 87GB of memory for back. I went from 581GB of free space to 480GB in about 4 days, but I got it back upto 545GB after I cut down my back-up storage. - BlackMamba24
