Question and Answers

rohit how can i host website on my computer ? - rohit
Best Answer: IIS isn't on most computers. The best way to setup a webserver on your computer is to download and install XAMPP (google it). It's free and it auto-installs apache, php and mysql all of the tools you need to setup a webserver. Tips: make sure you open port 80 on your firewall if you have one. FREEBIE: I own a hosting company and if you contact me at sitepenguin.com via the live chat I will give you free hosting on my dedicated servers. This way you dont eat up your bandwidth on your computer but get proffesional service for free. There is no catch. -
Honestly, you really don't want to do that for three reasons: 1) Your computer needs to be on 24/7/365. Leaving a computer on for extremely long periods of time can cause a number of problems, including mechanical parts wearing out (cooling fans, hard drives), decreased performance, and heat build up. Most home computers are not designed for such operations. 2) You'll need an OS that is designed to be a web server. Windows XP and Vista limit "incoming connections" to 12 at a time, meaning only 12 people can visit your site at a time (that's not alot usually). 3) Most Internet Service Providers (ISPs) don't like their customers hosting web servers, as it takes up a lot of bandwidth. If your ISP finds out you are hosting a website, they may shut off your internet connection. - Joey
