Wrath! Film for old cameras.? - Wrath! My grandfather gave an old camera called a Yashica FX-70 Quartz. I know very little about film and I wanted to know what is the best kind of film for this camera. And if you know place where I can buy some (I've tried looking for film before but apparently I am blind because I couldn't find any.) in New York City that would be even better.
Best Answer: The best film depends on what you want to do with it! In this case, however, since you are just experimenting at this point almost anything will work. I would recommend that you get 400 speed color print film, as that will probably give you the most flexibility shooting. Don't forget to set the film speed on the camera so your pictures expose properly! Here's a thought...why don't you go spend some good time with your Grandpa? He can teach you! - Gimli
Ok, here we go. What kind of end product do you want? do you want to produce pictures or slides???? If pics, then Kodak film is available on line, choose an iso of about 100 for excellent daylight shooting...for sun, set camera to f 11, shutter to 1/125th. Focus and shoot. (you won't have to worry too much about focus for scenes at these settings, just focus once and don't worry about it unless you do close up work. For cloudy days, pick f8 or f5.5 or so, shutter 1/60th or so. For flash, chose F 5.5 and 1/60th for correct sync. If the camera has a built in light meter and the light meter setting agree with what I have put down above in similar conditions, then the light meter is working. If you want slides, then choose Kodak Ektachrome, ISO 60 or ISO100 (ISO25 is very slow film, but is fine on full sunlight days, but you will have to change your settings 1-2 full stops to adjust to iso (I hope this is not greek to you. Have film processed at Wallmart or drugstore, or any camera shop. You will find the cost of using film to be great compared to digital cameras, for in a roll, you may get 1-4 good shots, but you will pay for the entire roll. Good luck - goldwing
