Tim B Why cant i make my subwoofers work? - Tim B ok, this is my second time asking this, i think ive narrowed it down to one thing. Remote wire. it is supposed to be wired to the ACC wire. problem is everywhere ive found on the web said it should be a light blue or dark blue wire. best buy wired it to a light green wire with a black stripe coming out of my onstar crap. the vehicle is a 2001 chevy impala LS with the 3.8L motor. without ripping the dash apart to find the wire behind my headunit, where else might i find this wire and what color is it?
Best Answer: Dunno why it would be tied into your onstar. take it back to best buy, they have to fix it if they installed it. Also, you don't actually need to take it off your ACC. You can connect a small remote wire from your main power to your amp and just jump that over to your remote terminal on your amp. Although the main power is always live, which means the remote wire will turn on the amp and always leave it on. So you would want to put a switch in the line so that you can manually turn it on or off. I would recomend at least doing this as a test. get a small bit of wire and just go from your power to your remote to see if your amp turns on. then you know the remote wire is actually your problem. I would just cut out the existing one, tape it off and throw a switch in. but that's just me. or go back and tell them to fix it. - G6er
You are probably going to have to take at least some of your dash apart to access the wires unless there are some low enough and under the dash that you can reach. Do you have an electrical test light? They sell them at walmart for under $15. All you need is a wire that has power ONLY when the ignition key is on. If you don't have access to wiring diagrams specific to your car, start with a test light, clip the wire end of the tester to any grounded, bare metal, screw, bolt, whatever you can find within reach. Turn your key ON. Then just start checking wires by touching the other end of the tester(the pointed end) to them until the tester lights up. Once you've found one that does, keep the tester attached and lit up and turn your key OFF. If the tester light went out, you've found what you're looking for. If the light stayed on(even with the key off) keep looking til you find one that turns on and off with the key. When you find one, mark it so you don't lose it and hook up your remote turn on lead. - teva40's
