Best Answer: I tend to always buy the HP ink because of the incredible amount of testing that they do with it. They test it on mountaintops and take it into underwater submersibles to test it. It's insane the amount of testing that they do. On how a non-genuine ink ruined it, I'm not sure. If you were just refilling existing cartridges, then I can see you having issues. Those cartridges are meant to last a short time and the circuitry on them can wear out in time. However, on to your question.. Going back to genuine ink should be no problem. You may or may not need to do a print cleaning on the heads but if you do, then it should then work fine afterwards. I would simply install the new cartridges and try printing. You can then clean the heads if the print quality is less than desirable. The only way you would need to clean the printer first is if ink leaked into the printer. If you had this issue, then use care that you don't damage other parts of the printer and use paper towels to soak up as much of the excess ink as possible and make sure it dries before using it again. If the ink got on the pickup roller, then it may be near impossible to salvage but that would be very rare from a spilled cartridge. Good luck! - BigWhiskey
Where did you get the idea that non genuine ink ruins the printer? I have been using compatible ink for at least ten years. One of my printers is 8 years old and still going strong.
