Question and Answers

confusing cell phone question, I hope you can understand? - Okay, so my Instinct from Sprint broke, just completely failed on me. Now when I tried to call in for a replacement, the lady said that it'll be a hundred dollars for a replacement! hello? it used to be $50 and now it went up to $100, let alone, they don't even make the 1st generation Instinct anymore. Just the upgraded versions. It really got me upset. I mean, i know it's better than $500 dollars, but still. My dad and I thought it was really ridiculous, especially at a recession. Question: Now, my dad has been with Sprint for about 6 years, and I've been with them for about 3 years. I re-newed my contract last year for the Instinct. and now I have to wait till next year, september, to get out of that contract and go for the iPhone to whichever other company it will land on. (yes, i know about apple and verizon people. But those are just rumors.) But since i don't have a phone right now, and can only upgrade with a discount of a little amount of money, can me and my dad switch contracts, and just keep the same number, and I can get a new phone since he has never upgraded(he has only used my previous phones.), and from there I can get a better, much more 2010 like phone? Or should I just pay $200 dollars and switch over to AT&T for an iPhone. (although, i think I would just want to wait for a better one this upcoming summer.)
Best Answer: The insurance deductible (the $50 and $100 you mentioned) varies based on the phone. Smart phones and wannabe smart phones like the Instinct do tend to have the $100 deductible for replacement. You're right--it is better than the full retail price, even if it is $50 more than you were expecting. You and your dad can't switch contracts, per se. If he's okay with it, have your dad call in to extend his contract and get an upgrade and have him order the phone you want. When it comes in the mail, you can ask him to call Sprint to do a flip-flop (use that term) so that you get the Hero on your line and he gets your old phone on his line. -
