shraezy The latest laptops? configuration? dell / hp ? help !? - shraezy Hey I am planning to get a new laptop and my budget is around Rs. 40,000. 1) Can someone tell me the configuration in dell and hp these days? Or any latest configuration these days in this range? 2) It should supports DOS ( or somthing that can support turbo c/c++, jdk 1.5 and other computer languages) suggest me the model accordingly please. 3) Are small laptops comfortable to write ?? what are the advantages of small laptops over big ?? and vice-versa. Thanx in advance.
Best Answer: 1) Configuration.. That's up to you to decide whatever fits your budget. I'd suggest go for something that has atleast 2GB RAM. Integrated Graphics should be okay if you don't intend using the laptop for games. Take a look at the links and choose one. I'd personally recommend Dell as its Customer Service in India is pretty good from what i hear. I suggest the Dell Inspiron 15. Invest the rest in warranty. 2) As for the programming languages, Turbo C is an antique software, designed for the DOS-era. There are many incompatibilities with the C standards as well as with today's OSs (such as direct hardware access). I'd highly recommend trying Code::Blocks which lets you compile C apps as well as C++. But if its TC you want, I'm afraid it won't work with Windows 7. You'll have to run the program in XP Mode using Virtual Machine. Simply google 'XP Compatibility Mode' to know more about that. You can, of course, buy a laptop with XP installed but that would be like moving a step backward, since support for XP will soon end completely (if it has not already). 3) Yes I find small laptops a tad uncomfortable. But then, it's just a matter of getting used to. Work on anything for two weeks and you'll feel at home with it. http://www1.ap.dell.com/in/en/home/notebooks/ct.aspx?refid=notebooks&s=dhs&cs=indhs1&~ck=mn http://h20424.www2.hp.com/product/notebooks/in/en/hp-pavilion-notebook-pc.asp#/HP_Pavilion_DV_series http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=819888 - Dream Chaser
