EgyptsFin3st73 what kind of wire do i need to connect my laptop to my TV? - EgyptsFin3st73 what kind of wire do i need to connect my laptop to my TV. i have a sony bravia 40in and a sony laptop model PCG-3A1L. And if you know any website that sells them or a store like PC Richard please tell, thank you.
Best Answer: That laptop model does nothing via google. Just adds for batteries. So not helpful. No model number given on TV, so again, no clue what you're working with. So I'm just going to play the odds and assume both support VGA. VGA can do HD resolutions. So just get a VGA cable and connect the two components together, voila. Then play around with the resolution setting till you find one that works. Consult the TV manual for PC input resolutions that it accepts. That only covers video though. VGA is a video only connection. You'll need another cable for audio. For that you need to analyze your TV and see what kind of audio port it associates with the VGA port. Quite often it is a PC audio port with the VGA port on the TV. So then just get a Stereo Mini cable. You plug one end into the laptop headphone jack and the other end the TV. Here's an example, http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Mini-Stereo-Dubbing-Plug/dp/B00004Z5CQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1257636380&sr=8-1 But sometimes, the VGA port is associated with RCA stereo (red/white) inputs. So if that's what your TV uses then you need a Stereo Mini to RCA cable like this, http://www.amazon.com/Dayton-3-5RCA-12-3-5mm-Stereo-Cable/dp/B000F7P7EW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1257636427&sr=1-3 If both components have DVI connections, this all would apply again, but get a DVI cable instead. If the laptop is DVI out and the TV is HDMI in, then look for a DVI to HDMI cable (or DVI to HDMI adapter and HDMI cable, same difference). Again though that's video only and you need to deal with the audio on its own. Most HDTVs with HDMI will have at least one HDMI port (if they have multiple) which also accepts RCA Stereo. So use the DVI to HDMI connection for video and get a Stereo Mini to RCA cable for the audio. If the laptop is VGA only and the TV HDMI only, please read this, http://sewelldirect.com/articles/vga-to-hdmi.aspx - jf
The best connection from a laptop to a Flat Screen TV is through a HDMI cable connection providing your laptop has a HDMI port. If you have this configuration, you must go to your Sound Icon in your control panel and make the HD output your Default. The HDMI cable will transfer both audio and video to your TV. HDMI cables are available in various lengths from Walmart or any electronics outlet. - mexicotv
Check your laptop and see what type of video connection you have for the output. Or take your laptop to any Best Buy, Fry's Electronic or Radio Shack store and they will be able to provide you with the proper cable you need. Hope this will help you out. - bbt91945
