jake 94 ram 1500. installed radio but now shorted fuses? - jake i have a 94 ram. and i just installed a new radio today. i went to go somewhere tonight and i turned on my lights. my fuse to my parking lamps blew (15-amp) i put one more in and it kept blowing and i have absolutely no power to my dimmer switch (dashboard lights, i put a test light up to the fuse panel) dad said crossed wires? what do u think?
Best Answer: most likely a crossed wire. im guessin by your description you didnt have a wiring harness. So here is what you need to do remove it and if you got the speakers right you definitely want to mark them to keep track of. Second there are two power wires to the head unit usually a red one and an orange one. Double check but usually the orange is constant and should be ran to the battery with an inline fuse of 15-20 amps. The red is a remote and tells the unit to turn on when the vehicle is on. That needs to be ran to a fuse in the box. One that turns on with the car. Use your test light to find a fuse that turns on with the key. try to find a fuse with a low amp such as 5-10 amps. the head unit requires at least a 25amp fuse in the panel to turn on and on. Make sure your ground wire is secured to bare metal and away from any power wires that may be in the dash. Try that dont rush it take your time and you wont blow more fuses. -
Indeed you obviously wired it wrong. Back to the drawing board :-P - Patrick
