primalclaws1974 How much more will computers change in the next ten years? - primalclaws1974 Ten years ago (or maybe a bit more) I had a computer that a 333 MHz (yes, that's mega, not giga) processor. It had a cd player, nothing DVD, and I had spend a huge amount of money to install a cd burner that took an hour and a half to burn a cd. This machine with the 75 pound monitor with a viewing space in par to my cell phone today, cost $1,400.00! I remember saying once, when I say a top-of-the-line computer, "why in the world would you EVER need a 25 gigabyte hard drive?" Today my 2.3 Quad, 8 gigs of RAM and 2 terabytes of storage are barely getting me by. I would never have dreamed of Lightscribe, and 32 gig SD cards, and dual layer Blu-Ray discs that hold 50 gigs each! I would never have envisioned computers with floppy disk drives and no dial up modem! And I am only 35! I cannot imagine how much more can be crammed into a pc, as it's already got more gadgets than a swiss army knife. It just amazes me to think of the next ten years. What do you think?
Best Answer: "why in the world would you EVER need a 25 gigabyte hard drive?" Heheh...you're in company with bill gates, who once said words to the effect "64K ought to be just about enough ram for anybody". ;-) So - in the works now are SSDs, optical circuits and quantum computers, some of which are organically based, not silicon. Today's gaming systems may well be outpowered in a decade by handhelds. I suspect (and am unsure why they aren't here now) that mice will become displaced by fingertip "spatial recognition" devices. Memory itself may become multi-nodal, displacing the current trend towards merely making data busses "wider", though not before 128 and 256bit systems have run their course. Such a system may also usher in genuine AI. BTW, our first TV when I was a kid was a B/W Muntz TV. It had a 6" screen and a large waterfilled magnifying glass in front of it. There were 3 stations, 3, 6 & 10 that went off the air every night and came back on in the morning. I used to watch shows like Sky King, Shock Theater, Howdy Doody, Sally Starr and Bertie the Bunyip. The sonsini's were the first family on the block with a color TV, even if the people were various shades of green and red. Over the years, comb filters gave color TV excellent NTSC pictures, even though european PAL systems were superior to NTSC. Now I watch 1920x1080 ATSC OTA TV on my computer monitor. But I remember... ;-) One more buzzword for the oldtimers here: Remember always having to fiddle with the vertical and horizontal holds? - Geezer Geek
You will not even recognize it as a computer. - Tater

Unbelievable- Isn't It ??! :) I'm predicting that TV's & PCs are going to "merge" into ONE Entertainment venue... & that Cell Phones will "devolve" into portable intranet communications Units- with access to EveryTHING, & EveryONE !!! DVDs will already be "history" -and iPod will be selling for a Quarter in -peoples yard-sales..! And Laptops?- I'm about to buy a new One, & I'm pretty sure it will be my LAST... -By the time Obama ends his second term as President in early 2017, laptops will be favored only by the AARP generations (you know; those of Us who can't program a VCR- NOW ? ! ). These will be AWESOME Technological Times... :) - Joseph the Second
Well taking into consideration it was not that long ago a COMPUTER was about the size of a house . With Micro-circuits and Touch Screen technology etc . It may well end up the size of a pocket note book ? By the time a computer is sold its nearly outdated before it leaves the shop . So in 10 years all one could ever need or want may be carried in a brief case beside your lunch - darkangel
thats for only your imagination to decide - seadog
In ten years, computers will be so advanced that people will no longer be necessary. In fact, Skynet, a super intelligent computer, will launch a war against humanity and send back through time several Arnold Schwarzenegger robots to become governor of California. - Blobbie
