Question and Answers

SIM card, phone number change? - okay, so my friend is sending me her phone, because my current one has packed up and won't turn on. what i want to know is, if i put the sim card from my currently dead phone into her phone, would my settings still be saved and will my contacts all be there and everything, and will my number still be the same as my 'dead' phone? BOTH of the phones are motorola phones if this helps, but we're on different networks and stuff... my phone is on orange and her phone is on t-mobile... so will my amazing plan work? thank you! xx
Best Answer: Firstly, since your friend is T-mobile and you are orange, the you would likely need to unlock the phone - otherwise your sim wont work. This can be done at many shops in town. If the phone is already locked, then no problem. If you put your sim in it and it starts OK, no problems, if it says something like no sim inserted or something, it will be locked. As for your phone numbers etc - your phone numbers will only be transferred if you have saved them to sim rather than phone. If they haven't been saved to sim, then you just have to put them all in again (saving to sim incase you change phone again!!). Your settings will be saved on the phone, so you would have to set up the new phone to how you like. Same with messages/pictures. If they have been saved to phone memory, then they can't be transferred. If you have pics saved on a memory card and you can use that card in the new phone, then you will still have them, but anything on phone memory will be gone (unless you manage to get old phone on for long enough to transfer things). Also, yes, you would still have the same phone number - this is connected to the sim, not the phone, so that will be unchanged. - puffin57
if the phone is unlocked it may work as unlocked phones can take any network sim - rennickelizabe
any info saved on your sim card will be accessible in your friends phone but, as you are on different networks most likely the phones will be locked to their own network, nearly all phones can be unlocked to accept any sim card though and it does'nt cost much. yes you will still have your number.
the details in the SIM card will be accessible but not the details (including contacts) in the old phone cannot be accessed - Nandivelugu s
