Question and Answers

tingalex "Parallel" phone lines? - tingalex I was originally looking into a PBX system for my house but it was a bit of a hassle. I found Panasonic's KX-TS4200. This is a corded telephone system. You can have up to 16 handsets throughout the house. Supposedly, they are each assigned an extension (as in a PBX system). For the intercom and page functions (i.e. extension features) to work, however, the phone jacks must be "parallel". What does this mean, and how do I find out before I go and spend 1500$? Thanks, and, as always, 10 pts.
Best Answer: The telephone company provides two wires to connect the phone line. We can call these two wires A and B. Each phone also has two connections into it, which we can call 1 and 2. If three phones - P, Q, R are connected in "series", that means: A is connected to P1 and B is connected to R2. Third wire (C) connects P2 and Q1. Fourth wire (D) connects Q2 and R1. For the three phones to be connected in "parallel", that means: A is connected to P1, Q1, R1. B is connected to P2, Q2, R2. In this situation, the line from the phone company may be connected to P1 and P2. The line from P1 is taken to Q1 and from P2 to Q2. The line from Q1 is taken to R1 and from Q2 to R2. This is also a parallel connection because even if phone P is not picked up, the phone R is still connected to A and B. - Personne
Not exactly sure, but it sound like another way to say "homerun". Otherwise, each jack is wired back to the source. The other way is serier or dasiychain. That is when the first jack is connected to the source, he second jack is connected to the first jack, an so forth. - Brian Da Dog
