router question? - hockey pro why does my router wont connect unless the computer is turned on why is this. its a d-link rangebooster

Best Answer: im guessing the little lights dont show on the router, am i correct? usually a connection will be constant as long as it is correctly connected and there is always something to connect to, or the router obviously isnt turned off. If you are using a wireless adapter, sometimes they need the power supply and other resources of the computer to function, and will thus connect, if its a direct connection, the computer just needs power, the router will sometimes not see anything at the other end if there is no power, routers can be stupid. =] - dave-the-wave

Need some more information, such as how you know the router is not connected? is it, you got more then one computer. but computer B can't get internet with out compuer A beeing on. or is it something like an Xbox or Wii that your using to test connectivly or some other simular device or some other method? also what kind of internet connection do you have? and the wire that plugs in to the wan port on the router where is that plugged into? - snowcloud_dreamer

a router maintains a constant connection through the modem. how do you know it isnt connected if you arent using it? - Phil
