building a stereo and need help? - John 117 im building a stereo for a self-assighned school project want to use car stereo system parts because they look kooler and i want radio reception my budjet is about $500. if u have any links to sites that tell u how to do this it would be highly apreciated i also need a list of the parts i would need [ amp, power supply, speakers ect. oh and im also looking for cheap p2" pyramid acoustic foam to cover 131sq m of my room so any links to that aswell would be gd Thanx

Best Answer: you can go about this one of two ways. my preference would be to buy regular home use recievers or amps and buy twice the speakers you would have otherwise because most home audio runs on 8-16ohms and the 4 ohms speakers would ruin the amp. you would then simply run the speakers in series in order to raise the impedence on them (source+ to speaker one - to speaker two + to source -). the other way that you could do this is to buy a converter to plug into your wall outlet and it will change the electrical signal to a 12volt DC signal. from there, you would buy an amp and hook that up through the power supply. i am not sure what wattage you will be able to push with using one of those power supplies because i have never used one before though. good luck with your system! - Jake C
