blahootlanig How do i recover files from a dead harddrive? - blahootlanig ok, so i have a hardrive that failed on my a few years ago and i had alot of stuff on there id like to get back, so i was wondering how i could get them back? when the hard drive is plugged into ANY computer and u boot up it says "Invalid boot disc in drive A" despite wether the floppy drive is connected or not. and if i try to install a new OS it says no hardrives were connected. so i no it cant function properly anymore, could i maybe buy a new head? or a cable to hook the hard drive up to another computer like an external hard drive? i dont see how software would do the job because software cannot be installed on the hard drive. unless it was for a different computer before hooking it up via USB/1394. so please, if anyone can help, then do so. Best Answer: If the disk is not recognized by a computer, the only hope would be to send it off to a disk recovery service, such as Ontrack Data Recovery. They charge for their service. - cajunspike1959
