Question and Answers

ElGrande Vista/router question? - ElGrande I have a new laptop and am having issues connecting to my router (Belkin Wireless-N which usually connects at 802.11g). Sometimes, when connecting, I only get "Local Only" access and cannot get my ISP to come up. Other times (maybe 50/50), I do get "Local and Internet" access which will give me access to my ISP through IE. My router is protected through WPA2, and on any other laptop I usually have to provide the code the first time. I did notice that (even though I can connect with proper access sometimes) I have never been asked for the passcode on the new laptop with Vista. Any ideas? It's been a crapshoot so far getting correct access. Usually, I'll have to connect/disconnect 3-4 times before it gives me "Local and Internet" access.
Best Answer: Sounds to me like you might be connecting with someone else's unsecured (hence no wep request) wireless network. Double click on the network icon in your system tray and select connect or disconnect. That will bring up a list of available networks and you should be able to identify your own. Click on it and then click connect. It should then ask for your wep during the connection process AJ Hmm that is very odd - I have Vista and the first time I connected it asked for my wep but after that it remembered it. do you have a cordless phone, or a baby monitor. I'd be looking for something that used the 2.4 ghz spectrum. It sounds like your getting interference from something.. this is why wireless sucks. Wired Ethernet has no reliability problems - nathan
Oh, well I'm so sorry to hear that. Maybe you should try getting rid of Windows, and installing Linux. You can't go wrong. - Chans 19-0 Patriots(2008 Season)
