John Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router? - John Okay a friend of mine gave me this product without the CD ROM disc and i went to Linksys support page for it it and it does not have the drivers for WRT54G - Wireless-G Broadband Router which i need should i just plug it in without the cd rom? i want to make a wireless connection i already have a wired connection on my PC any adice would be helpful.
Best Answer: You shouldn't need any drivers. Often router manufacturers include all the necessary configuration utilities in the router itself. Try to do the following: 1. Plug in the router and turn it on 2. Connect it to your computer via ethernet 3. Open up your browser (internet explorer is probably best, to avoid any compatibility issues) 4. Type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and press Enter That should bring you to the router configuration page. Sometimes it is password protected. Normally the default username and password are something like "admin" and "password" but you can check the documentation online for the default. If you cannot find it, then you can press the litte button on the back of the router to reset it. Once you are in, you must enable wifi via the interface and you should be all set. Remember to plug in your internet access into the router in order to access the internet wirelessly. - walperta
hi john, without the software what your friend gave you is junk. and i cannot brag on linksys anyway tried to install one and i could not get it installed so i called my isp tech support and they worked for two days to tried to get it to work and they gave up so. lets aproach this from another direction anything that you install has to have a driver and that driver works off of an adaptor so without the software you cannot get the drivers nor the adaptors so your at a dead end. sorry about that good luck hope this was helpful. - hemppy
Yeah, just press the reset button and plug everything in. Go to the units product page http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1149562300349&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=0034936001B12 and open the user guide. Just follow the setup steps, make sure your pc has a wireless adaptor and configure it with your pc, you can do all the setup manually without the cd including update the driver, the default password and user name," admin", and ,"admin", are enabled after you press reset, the ip address (192.168.1.1)is in the user guide, just read through it and follow the steps carefully, if you can't connect or get locked out of the internet restart and reconnect with the default settings again. - Frankie
