hsv_92 What kind of RAM do I need? - hsv_92 I recently got a free computer it is Microtel. I have upgraded it to Windows XP. I want to get more RAM for it. I have no idea what kind it is or how much it has, but I want more. I was wondering if I could buy a new 2GB RAM and put it on my Compaq computer and put the Compaq one into my Microtel. Is that possible? Or should I just buy a new RAM for the Microtel? What kind of RAM do I need for either one?
Best Answer: Do the motherboards support the same type of ram? You have not given enough info to get a really good answer. You need to check at the manufacturers website for each system to see what is compatible. - bill b
RAM is depending upon mother board slot only. Mother board slots are many type, like DDR, DDR2, SDRAM. so see the mother board slot and buy the new RAM. - Sivachandran B
You will need to find out if both computers (their mother boards) support the same type of RAM (Google both cards). The RAM may fit in the slot, but this does not mean that it is the proper speed or pin # (e.g. mine is 667). Also your mother board may have a limit to RAM, for example, my 32 bit Vista only supports 4GB of RAM max. - Crusher
go to tigerdirect.com and use the memory configuration and it will tell you what kind you need for either one.. and just get new for the microtel. - big_pimpin
first you have to find out what kind of ram is already in them (ddr, ddr2, dram, etc). the type of ram you put in it is all that matters, as long as you get the right type it doesnt matter how much you put in. - trey
