Question and Answers

das.frettchen Can I use 2 linksys cable modems on one Cox high-speed cable connection? - das.frettchen I have 2 computers. One is on the main level of the house and is connected with an Ethernet cable to the a Linksys wireless G router which is connected to the modem. Another computer is in the basement and is connected with a wireless G card. The wireless network connection over this distance, through the flooring and several walls, is pretty crappy. The signal is constantly lost and must re-connect, sometimes the second computer can spend more time offline, trying to connect to the network, than it is online (we're talking 30 seconds on the network, over a minute off the network trying to re-connect.. imagine this for hours on end). I want to know if I can purchase a second modem to hook up from a cable outlet in the basement and just have the second computer connected directly with an Ethernet cable to avoid the wireless connection problems. I am only subscribed for a standard Cox high-speed internet service. Would I have to purchase another internet line? Thanks for your help!
Best Answer: You would need another internet line as each cable modem would be trying to use the same frequency on the line. I'd recommend looking into an option called Powerline Networking (I believe). Couple of links below for your reference. - KillerQuag
