jess what is wrong with my printer? - jess i have a epson stylus cx4200. I have replaced the black ink because it was gone now it still says I'm out of ink and won't print anything. I have checked all the other inks and shook them to make sure they had ink and all of them have ink. I only really use the black. What else can I do? I want to print some stuff out and it won't let me. How do I check my ink and printer to see what is wrong. Thanks.
Best Answer: Let's start with an obvious but common issue: did you remember to take the tape off the top of the cartridge? If air cant get in, ink cant get out. Are you sure it's the new cartridge which it thinks is out of ink and not one of the other ones? When you replace a cartridge, it runs through a cleaning cycle which uses ink and often another cartridge ends up getting emptied. If that's not it, run the replace function again as if you were replacing the cartridge again, take it out, shake it and put it back. Maybe the printer just didn't "get it." If that doesnt work, take out the cartridges and use a flashlight to examine where they go. I once found a sliver of cartridge chip stuck to the pins which was shorting them out. If your computer isn't printing you need to establish why it isn't printing. 1. Did it tell you it was out of ink? If it did you take the old empty cartridge to the store with you to make sure you got the correct one? If you are certain it was out of ink and you have the correct cartridge then hook then install the cartridge and your printer should automatically do a print align test which should print out. If it did not do this you should check to see if you put the cartridge in correctly. Look at the other cartridges that are installed and try to line it up the same way if they are the same size and shape. Also make sure your power light is illuminated. Once you have dona all this. It should perform the print alignment test and print out the results. 2.Make sure your computer is connected to your pc. It usually has a usb or lpt or serial or network cable or it's wireless. You can determine if the connection is good by attempint to send a a document to the printer by opening a document to print and selecting file, print set up, select your printer from the drop down window, and then select print page. If it prints you are good to go. If it does not it should present an error i.e. no ink or printer not found etc. If it still reads no ink. Bring your printers help menu up by searching for the printer program on your list of programs by selecting the start button on your desktop. If you can't locate it there go to Google and do a search for your printer model and once it comes up go to the help or troubleshooting error and looking for the cartridge replace section. Also check out the printer not found section here if that is the problem displayed. - marcclark2007
Check to see if your computer is connected to the right printer icon. sometimes if you use more than one printer you have to make sure you choose the correct printer you are currently using..... - pootfart3
Make sure you installed the ink correctly. Sometimes if it isn't in there all the way it will give you the error message. If the ink nozzles on the printer are clogged it will do the same thing. Make sure there isn't ink build-up in the printer. Did you buy the correct ink cartage?
