freethinkerny 500GB External HD: which one would YOU buy?!?!? - freethinkerny I'm weighing my options, and I've come across three that pretty much have the same reviews. I have ZERO experience with external HD's, so any input is welcomed. I only plan on using this to store media, nothing of any real importance. Best Answer: Trust your instincts ... go with the Seagate ... I have 3 of the 500's .... great drives ... I also have a WD 500 My Book that has 3way connections ... I like the Seagates - Jack K

I think either the western digital or the seagate would be about equivalent...I have had a Western Digital external HD 160 Gig now for over 4 years, it runs continuously...no problems. It is a fine external drive. - Jim

Go with the Seagate. Personally I like Western Digital but the warranty is pretty good on that Seagate. - Fox
