Joshua B Should I keep Vista or install XP? - Joshua B I am currently attending ITT Technical Institue School of Drafting and Design. The school uses an xp pro operating system. I have a Sony Vaio with vista, 2gb of ram, microsoft office 2007, and a intel pentium dual core processor. ITT use ofiice 2003. And there are other programs that i have to use that are not compatible with vista. So for me to be 100% compatable with school and all programs i would have to switch to xp. I already have all the drivers downloaded for xp pro and ready to install.. what should i do?? help!!
Best Answer: I say you should keep Vista. That's what I have. I like it. Yeah. - Aubreigh S
xp - Lisa K
I would either partition part of the hard drive to run XP since you already have all the drivers, or you could toss Vista out and install XP only. However, if you do that and something goes wrong you're on your own because Microsoft's customer service will not help with that (I assume it's voiding the warranty). Also, they may be "upgrading" to Vista soon as most schools are. I would ask an advisor first to see if they are upgrading soon or not. If they are, then keep your current setup. If they are planning to keep XP then either partition the hard drive or get rid of Vista all together. - ZMcClean
So your asking how to install XP over Vista, not whether or not you should do so, right? If thats the case, buy (or otherwise acquire..) a copy of XP and pop in the disc. Unfortunately, as of June 30th, retail copies of XP are no longer being sold in stores. However, if you hurry, you can still get OEM (original equipment manufacturer, geared towards system builders) copies from some online stores, such as Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116515 - prejudged_fire
you should install windows XP. its more reliable and faster than any other, but the system you are using is not going to make any diiference in speed. go with service pack 2. its better. - Lee
Just go ahead and keep vista. Ignore all the people who are going to whine. If you have it it's fine, but it's not worth buying, get it? - Blåck
I've yet to find a program not compatible with Vista. Run the program in compatibility mode and it should work fine. However, that said...You have three choices: Stay with Vista and figure it out, install XP (not that big of a deal - takes about six hours to get completely up to date), or run a dual OS (Vista and XP). What help do you actually need? - Darren, PC Friendly, Inc.
Just install XP - Sophiekinz
You need to do what you need to do to make your computer compatible with the technology that you will be working with on a daily basis. You should switch to xp to make things easier when it comes to school. - Kimberly L
Hello Joshua B. To answer your question, I suggest you install the OS XP and upgrade it to SP2. Windows XP SP2 was the final release, or as I know of, of the XP series. On the other hand, Vista is a memory eater and has a lot of bugs & glitches. -- If this did not solve your query or I did not understand your query, please send me a message with some more detail and I shall research it for you. - James L. - James L
don't mislead xp is less bug, xp actually has more bug, it was the most vulable os ever, yes it does let you installed most software and hardwarem vista is better especially if you had decent up to date hardware, if you pc is more than 2 years old, and yes xp might be suitable for you if you don't wanted to spend extra in upgrade. - Rich
