Adrian A Grahpics Card and Processor, need some help? - Adrian A Hey there! I'm looking to buy a new processor and a new grahpics card for my computer. Motherboard Asus P5BW-LA (Basswood). http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00748726&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&os=228&product=3271568&lang=en . Could someone please recommend me a good (gaming) graphics card and a good (gaming)processor. They both have to be under £150 and have to be on play.com (I love that site, cheap shizzle and good service). And they of course have to be compatible with my MoBo :D. Please, just help me out, I'm not that experienced in computers :) Also, by gaming, I mean something like, run CoD4 on very high. I am also going to upgrade my powersupply to 500W, but found a good one I think http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/5100623/OCZ-StealthXStream-OCZ500SXS-UK-500W-Power-Supply-Unit-PSU-120mm-Fan/Product.html or am I wrong? Thanks in advance! :)
Best Answer: hi adrian when you have a pci-express x16 slot theres a much better selection of graphic cards to choose from and you should be able to get a decent card for less than £50 however move your budget to around £100 and your choice is alot better my first recommendation is the Sapphire ATi Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB PCI-E (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/PCI-E/ATI+Radeon+2000+Series/Sapphire+ATi+Radeon+HD+2600+XT+256MB+PCI-E+?productId=27838),this is a popular card for less than £50 and when you see the specifications you will see why it has a 800mhz core clock and 256mb of gddr3 memory running at 1400mhz,along with the average 128bit memory bus you have a card thats capable of all todays games then theres the Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 512MB PCI-E(http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/PCI-E/ATI+Radeon+3000+Series/Sapphire+Radeon+HD+3850+512MB+PCI-E+?productId=29828),this is another direct x 10 card and as with the above card they both support pixel and shader model 4.1 this along with the 668mhz core clock and 512mb of ddr3 memory running at 1656mhz and you have quite a performer,it also has a sizable 256bit memory interface which equates to a excellent gaming card now for a processor and since your motherboard supports the socket 775 compliance the best processor around for less than £150 at the moment is the Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz (oem, 775) ,(http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/CPUs+%2F+Processors/Intel/Core+2+Duo/Intel+Core+2+Duo+E6600+2.4GHz+%28oem%2C+775%29+?productId=23828),this is a excellent processor and has some good specs including a 2.4ghz clock speed and a 65nm(nanometer) manufacturing process, along with a 4mb level2 cache and a 3 year warranty and you have a excellent all round processor that wont let you down another processor worth considering is the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz (Retail 775) (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/CPUs+%2F+Processors/Intel/Core+2+Duo/Intel+Core+2+Duo+E8400+3.0GHz+%28Retail+775%29+?productId=30243),this is a good choice for guys who want speed along with quality it has a better 6mb level2 cache and a 1333mhz front side bus which are excellent specs for any processor, throw this in any intel based motherboard and it will improve your pc beyond anything you ever expected finally i noted you wished to buy the components from "play" however aria.com are the cheapest online p.c components you will ever find, they are at least 20% cheaper than play and their "superspecial" section have some really cheap products any problems let me know good luck adrian ! - brianthesnail123
i wrote one answer and then decided that you wanted BOTH cpu and card to total less than £150! if this is not the case then please let me know. right, to play cod4 etc on very high:.......the (first)card is a bit of a find but very good value. and the E7200cpu is excellent value and new from intel. this combi will smash cod4 easy!!!!! if im just being a plank and you mean £150 "each" then the Q6600/E8400 (£125) plus a 9800GTX for less than £150 would be my bet, good luck - badandy85
since you don't say what processor you have now nor the socket of your motherboard it's mighty near impossible to advise you. and since you only want to buy from the one source you should be able to get a contact phone number and call a sales rep from play.com - james B
That's a good power supply. Get a Radeon 4850 - they are great for the price. - muggie2dammit
