Diomedes Problems with Word from Office XP? - Diomedes A message appears everytime I try to open a Word file: 'Microsoft Word has found a problem and must close... ' Word can be opened only in error proof mode and I cannot convert word files to pdf... How can I fix all these things? PD: I deinstall Office XP 2000 and then re-install it but the problem survives. PD: the problem started after destroying a Trojan in the system with Avast. Multi Virus Cleaner 2008 finds no rests of it.
Best Answer: If Word will start in safe mode, but not in normal mode, then the usual cause is a corrupt Normal.dot global template. Two other possible causes are a corrupt or inaccessible printer driver, or an incompatible third-party add-in for Word. Close Word and Outlook, and use Windows Explorer or My Computer to rename the Normal.dot template in your User Templates folder to Normal.old or Normal.bad or something else. In Word, you can click on Tools | Options | File Locations to see where your User Templates folder is. In Windows XP, the default User Templates folder is usually C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates. In Windows Vista, the default User Templates folder is usually C:\Users\username\AppData\ Roaming\Microsoft\Templates. You will need to enable display of hidden files and folders in Windows Explorer or My Computer to see this folder.
