e.G.dude how do I keep my laptop battery from dying so quickly? - e.G.dude I just bought a Compaq Presario F700 sunday and my battery dies like an hour later. I have a warranty on it but I don't want to call HP to get my replacement battery yet. I've tried putting the battery on Power Saver, lowering the brightness of my screen, etc. But nothing seems to work i'm starting to think now I should of never bought this computer. I need help seriously.
Best Answer: If you're home or in the office. Remove the battery from your notebook and run by the adapter. Every week, put in the battery and work from it. Giving it a full charge after that. Remove it once again. The cycle goes on. - napaboaniya
replace it or turn down the back light set the backlight to turn off after 3-5 minutes of idle.. and set it to hybernate after about 10 minutes of idle.. it save the battery big time.. if you do the things below you will experience your battery time decreasing overtime.. until it will not be able to be used with out a power cord and therefor will have to be replaced: 1. burn dvd/cd's on battery power 2. watch movies or rip cd's on battery power 3. listen to loud music on battery power 4. run memory consuming programs on battery power. i encourage you that whenevr you are using your laptop.. not because its wireless you gotta showoff... when you are near a plug... PLUG IT IN. save battery usage for when you are going out or for emergencies where there is no electricity.. or at least keep battery power use to a minimum... if not you will have to replace you battery in about 9 months from now :D - spice_fuel68
I have a Toshiba laptop and get less than an hour on battery. When at home, I use an adapter to run it on electricity so I can extend the life of the battery. I'd be surprised if anyone gets more than an hour from a laptop battery. disable the display to mnimize the battery draining see the standard time a laptop battery is 2 to 2and 1/2 hrs. if it is less than this then follow step one go to setting control panel then display. if this is not doing the thing then replace ur batter i suggest. - harry
when using your laptop, don't have it charging at the same time. here's what you should do, try to recharge your laptop battery to full before using it. When it says the battery is full charge, use it until it dies (try to time it, it should last for about 3 hours for new laptops). basically, don't use your computer while its plug and charging..do that when your batteries are completely drained and only works when its plugged in. that means you need to purchase a new one. so when you get your new batteries, full charge it then use. don't use your laptop while its charging..this way, it will slow down your battery life. Laptop batteries needs to be replace at least once a year. since you just recently purchase this laptop, i recommend to find your receipt and go back where you bought it and tell them your problem..most likely, they will just give you another batteries. - solace0626
The battery may be defective, or it's also possible that the machine is shutting itself down because it's overheating. Laptops rely on one teeny little fan to cool the whole thing, and if the air vents are on the bottom, which is usually closed off by the table top the computer is sitting on, then the insides are not getting proper air flow, and once they start to get too hot, the computer will shut itself off. Compaqs are horrible computers, bottom of the barrel components, I've owned 4 of them and didn't have a good experience with 1. If you manage to get a Compaq and you think that it works well, it's usually only because you don't know enough about computers to realize that it's really a piece of garbage, a case of ignorance is bliss. I would suggest you take it back and buy something else. A brand that is not well known is Acer, their product is top notch but the price is only just starting to increase on them. If you recall that's where LG was only 3 years ago, now they're the gold standard in monitors, that's where Acer is heading as we speak. Either way, there's no way it should be dying after an hour, you should be able to use it for many many hours before the battery needs to be charged again. Hope this helps, good luck. - ComputerGeek67
well you got a few options...you can call up and complain and cause of the warranty theyll either send you a new one or better one, buy a better battery at a store they probbly wont be to expensive, you can leave your laptop always plugged in, deal with that it dieing all the time, or return the laptop and buy one with a better battery. nothing else you can do - never to cools gf is a fag
Take it back to the store where you bought it and describe the problem to them. They will either correct the problem or replace your battery at no extra charge. - Dreamer
make sure your battery is fully charged do run with it in when your plugged in. - Photoshop God
