Question and Answers

hey gurl. Would having a Macbook make it easier? - hey gurl. First of all, I just got the iPhone 3G which I love and think that everyone should experience if not own at some point. It's the best device I've ever used. Now I need a new laptop. My old Dell Inspiron 1000 has nearly died on me and barely functions anymore. Logically after researching the iPhone for so long, with Apple still fresh in my mind, I came to the conclusion to purchase a Macbook to complement the iPhone. I've been using Windows for as long as I can remember (no one in my family has ever had a mac and they are skeptical with my sudden obsession) and I am comfortable with Windows XP, however HATE Vista. So, basically is a Macbook the way to go with an iPhone? If not, is there any way I can get around having to get Vista with a new PC? Also, money-wise, I will only go as high as a macbook, no macbook pro for me... If you're a PC person, can you help me out with some models that would suit me? I mostly use the computer for music, internet, and word processing. Thanks!
Best Answer: While the iPhone 3G functions on both computers, Macintosh computers integrate more nicely with the iPhone than Windows. This is due to the fact that Macintosh computers come with iPhoto, iTunes, Address Book, and Mail all available to you on the dock. Windows is a bit more clunky. But either will do. The only way to get around Vista is if you reinstalled Windows XP. - niiro13
Actually windows run itunes (iphone syncing software) just as well as a Mac does. But when buying laptop it is wise to chose by its functions and not because of the iphone.see what you need and make a choice. As a Mac user I find that Mac is more productive and user-friendly. Just to note Mac does not come with any other software except Ilife'08 and is preinstalled with Leopard operating system. And somesoft wares are not compatibly with a mac - Mello N
I think you should go to an apple store and try using the MacBook for what you say you use it for. Usually they have them setup with internet on them, some sample music, and a word-processor. If you have trouble figuring things out you shouldn't just toss out the Mac idea, but if you like the feel of the interface and how you do things, then go ahead and go with the Mac. Vista isn't a good choice if its a laptop you're looking for because then going back to XP would be insanely difficult to do (its not just a matter of erasing vista and installing xp). You might be able to find a laptop that still has XP on it if you look (at places like Micro Center), but before you decide just try that Macbook and see if you like it. - sheer_musicality
The short answer would be YES. You can check out this guide to Leopard http://www.apple.com/findouthow/mac/ Macs also come with Garage Band so you can make your own music http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#garageband - mac_fixit
