Nick C Recharging Notebook Causes Damage? - Nick C One of my friends recently purchased an HP Pavilion DV2000 notebook pc. He wanted to know that if you charged your notebook for a long period of time, will this damage the notebook? He said that one of his other friends told him that if you left your laptop on charge for days and days, it can melt the charger's wires and cause internal damages to the laptop. Is this true? Because my friend leaves his notebook charged almost 24/7, just so that anytime he wants to take it somewhere else, he can rely on a fully charged battery. Does extensive charging cause damages like this? Thanks!
Best Answer: It shouldn't cause damage but it WILL wear down the battery life. On most laptops you can pull the battery out while it's plugged in. That's what I do. I've never owned an HP Pavilion DV2000 so I can't tell you if the battery is removable. See if you can pop the battery in and out. - Marcus L
i leave mine charged 24/7 and i have 3 latops. i expermented with them all. and u know what it doesnt cause damage to anything. its better to keep it on 24/7 then charge it and let it die and recharge it. it will weaken the battery if u let the battery die and recharge it over and over again. - techno
My brother also leaves his laptop plugged in 24/7 and it doesn't seem to cause any damage. My mom once told me that leaving your charger in all the time shortens the batteries lifespan but I'm not sure if that is true. - Nameless
it probably won't melt things like he thinks, but the battery will get stuck thinking it is charged all the time even when it is unplugged. it needs to run down every once in a while to prevent this "memory effect" from happening. once a week is good, but twice a week is better. - DragonLord 66
