JAMIE western digital external hard drive? - JAMIE i moved and now it wont turn on? it makes this clicking noise and also i dont have internet where i live
Best Answer: The clicking noise is caused by the actuator / actuator arm in the hdd that moves the heads. It could be 1 of 2 things... One your heads have crashed.... take it back under warranty or get a new one. Secondly it would be that the power supply is not putting out enough power to actually spin up the drive. If there is no data on the hdd you really need; then turn it off and give it a decent hit on the side which if you are very lucky will release the actuator arm... backup your data and get it replaced. My guess is that it is option 1. Western Digital hdd`s are utter crap... The last company I worked for had a failure rate of about 30% in 12 months for WD drives. We were a computer manufacturer.... they now use Seagate - Jack D
