x_tina0001 What does my flat screen TV need in order to pick up HD channels from cable? - x_tina0001 I have a pyle home flat screen and I got digital cable over the weekend. Now I thought that I would get all the channels but when I get to the HD channels I only get audio not the picture. I spoke to a representative from my cable company and told her what was happening and all she did was confuse me. She said that my TV is not capable to get HD channels and that I would need a new TV. But when I told her that I get audio she said that my TV has some capability but not entirely. Is there something I can get so my TV can pick up the HD channels entirely? How can I check to see if my TV is HD capable? (I don't have to manuel to the TV anymore)
Best Answer: For your TV to receive the FREE Cable channels, you need a TV with a QAM (or clear-QAM) tuner. Don't forget to go back to the TV menu and do a fresh channel scan. - TV guy
If your TV does support at minimum 720p you may need an HD tuner box hooked between the Cable box that you received from the cable company and the TV. Most digital cable boxes have them built in, but not all I guess. Usually the will hook up using RED/GREEN/BLUE or VGA (15 pin d-sub) connectors. If your digital cable box has these connectors I would use those first before buying a digital tuner. You may need to visit the manufacturers website of your TV to verify it's resolution specifications. 720p being a minimum resolution of 1280X720. - Brandon
Two things. First, put your tv's make and model number into a google search and be sure it's an hd tv. If it is, then you need to get an HD cable box from your provider, not a digital box. The plain digital box will not provide HD. And you will need to connect it to your tv with either an HDMI cable or a component (red/green/blue) cable. The yellow composite cable will not deliver HD. - Texperson
