What in-ceiling speakers do you recommend? - donald34 I'm a fan of Polk Audio but don't know if Polk is the right choice. Any suggestions. I have an Onkyo receiver and a Polk subwoofer. I currently have Bose speakers but need to install in-ceiling speakers.

Best Answer: I have Infinity in-wall speakers and they are great. Polk makes a good one too. I have Bose in another room but I think you pay for the name more than the quality. Go with Polk as long as they have what you are looking for... Good luck - Steve & Maria D

That depends on whether you have carpet or hard floors. For hard floors, a two way speaker that uses a soft dome tweeter is good because a soft dome has a naturally warm sound that can operate down to a lower frequency such as 2000-2500hz thus giving it a wide off axis dispersion pattern. The soft dome sounds better with the floor and ceiling reflections. For a carpeted floor that will absorb much of the high frequencies, a hard dome tweeter such as a titanium tweeter will work better because the brighter, tinny sounding nature of the design will be balanced out by the carpet. If you use a soft dome in a carpeted area it will probably sound too dull and if you use a hard dome with hard floors it will probably sound too harsh. As far as brands are concerned, I've had the best results with Boston Acoustics, Klipsch, Tannoy, KEF, Phase Technology, and Jamo. If you are handy/creative don't overlook a good set of car speakers for a ceiling speaker as long as your amp can handle the 4 ohm load. Definitely can save you alot of money since you can buy a good pair of 6 1/2" coax for as low as $50. I've seen Alpines for that much. Good luck. - AudioGMan
