Nazim N 3com Router Problem? HELP!? - Nazim N My 3com router recently has been acting up, This will have to be quick before it stops working again. At first i had the router working perfectly, now i have moved it further away from the telephone line so the wire has increased to 5m instead of 1m (is this relevant). This is the only thing that has changed. Now when i do something heavy like an update or lots of internet tabs, the 2 led lights out of 4 on the router turn off (sync dsl and data dsl). Power and wlan stay on. I think it could also be a problem with the wire end being lose or defected. The router is 2 years old and none of the settings have changed. What is wrong here?
Best Answer: if you use dsl make sure you use phone filters on every phone plug in your house 2nd look and see if there is a firmware update for your router goto manufactures website and type in the S/N of the router to look for updates on that. -
The wire length shouldn't be a problem but.. as you are losing the isp to router connection! could be the additional cable length/ crossstalk within it. see if you can get a cable that is screened.where have you got the filter, it should be nearest the router. - dick010453
I suspect the issue is a defective or loose wire. Cables are cheap; I would replace them and see what happens. A 1 meter vs 5 meter cable length makes no difference. However if the cable is stretched tightly, you may have pulled the wire from inside the jack causing a defective connection or a somewhat intermittent connection. - GTB
