speedypeeed What would be a better system? Klipsch Reference or Bose Wave? - speedypeeed I was looking to get a new killer home theatre system. I've checked out the Klipsch Reference system and I've heard good things about them. The only thing is these systems are very pricey. Then just yesterday I checked out the Bose Wave music system. It's no bigger than a clock radio and it's supposed to give you all that sound a bigger system could give. I know they use 26" tubes inside the systems that amplify the low end and give you that room filling sound. This system looks pretty cool and it won't take up much room, but first, I wanted to state my needs. I need a wicked system that I can crank up and still have massive bass with no distortion. I also need a few RCA connectors (at least 3 or 4) to suit my needs, so I can connect a computer, my PS3, my TV and either an iPod or satellite reciever. But like I said, I want massive killer bass. Space may not exactly be an issue here, so that's why I was considering the Klipsch Reference system. Then again, I kinda like the idea of the Bose Wave, but it's only limited to one 3.5mm input jack. Unless I buy the 3-CD changer (which I won't even use because I don't use CDs much anymore unless it's to rip them into my computer) and the changer includes 2 RCA hookups in the back. So would the Bose Wave match up to the Klipsch Reference system, or would it be even better? Would I still get the massive killer bass I want with the Wave? Also, is there a splitter or device I can use to connect up to 4 devices to the Wave? Like a switchbox or something where I can connect the audio sources and connect an iPod Y-adapter from the box to the Wave so all I have to do is use the switchbox to change signals rather than repeatedly disconnecting and reconnecting audio sources? I know that if I buy a good amplifier for the Klipsch Reference, I can have multiple RCA inputs available and everything is remote controlled. But I'm in a dilemma; Klipsch Reference or Bose Wave? Also I have another question inside this one. What would be the best brand of speakers to buy that are like the Klipsch Reference (big tower speakers, subwoofer, surround and center channels)? I heard that Polk Audio makes good speakers, and people I know have Nuance systems. Also I've heard of the Image brand and also... what was it now? Oh, right, Technics. What would be the best brand to get? And would the best one beat the Bose Wave or would the Bose Wave stand up to all of these expensive home theatre systems? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!
Best Answer: My vote: Klipsch Reference system. I find Bose overpriced and you don't really want and A-B-C switch into a 3.5 mm jack with wires all over the place do you? And you're not going to get "killer bass: from the Bose system. The good thing about speakers is they have come way down in price in the past few years. Go audition a bunch and decide for yourself. Size you like etc.... Some great brands have some great models and some so-so models so don't just go on brand. Go to Best Buy and the best stereo stores in town and check out speakers. Take a c.d. you like and don't buy in a hurry. (and the only way you'll get "killer bass" is with a BIG subwoofer-maybe two in a big room!) Ask yourself, isn't it worth getting the best you can? How long will I have this system? How versatile will it be in the future? Good luck! - Big River
Bose blows for what they charge. I have yet to see any Bose product that has a fair price on it. They usually cost twice what they are worth. Klipsch makes good speakers. Personally I prefer Polk, but that's a subjective factor. What isn't subjective is how much Bose sucks, so if you're limiting yourself to those two options go with the Klipsch. - Peter D

Where you'll start to see the Bose show its limitations isn't necessarily the bass, but you can't really adjust the audio settings. It's impressive on the first listen, but I think that once the listener gets used to it, it's clearly more quantity (in a tiny package, yes, and that's honestly the main thing it has in its favor) than quality. I'd definitely recommend the Klipsch system over the Bose. However, if you do go the Bose route, they do make audio switchers like this: http://www.trianglecables.com/os-3pt.html. - Jeff S
