WHY should I buy anything HD? -

Ok I'm so sick of hearing about HD. Whenever i go into any electronics shop, the little vultures that try to sell this HD crap always come to me trying to get me to "buy this 52" TV, it will make your home go from boring to WOW!!" ( that's an exact quote from a guy from best buy). So one day i decided to sit down and see what the big deal was. So i went over to my brothers house put the AIR blu-ray into his blu-ray player that was hooked up with an HDMI ( or whatever that new cable is called) to his 40" HDTV. then i put my SDTV next to his popped the AIR DVD into it and watched both at the exact same time. you know what? I didn't see a damn difference in quality or sound. So i thought "Oh its probably because its anime, lets try a video game." so i hooked up my 360 with all the standard stuff to my SDTV, and then hooked up his with again an HDMI cable to his HDTV. Again i saw no difference while playing dead rising on both at the exact same time. So i want one good reason why I should shell out $2,000 for a HDTV, $500 for a blu-ray player, and an extra $30 for every blu-ray video that looks the exact same as my 20" SDTV that was only $100 that came with a free dvd player?
