animemaster77 WHY should I buy anything HD? - animemaster77 Ok I'm so sick of hearing about HD. Whenever i go into any electronics shop, the little vultures that try to sell this HD crap always come to me trying to get me to "buy this 52" TV, it will make your home go from boring to WOW!!" ( that's an exact quote from a guy from best buy). So one day i decided to sit down and see what the big deal was. So i went over to my brothers house put the AIR blu-ray into his blu-ray player that was hooked up with an HDMI ( or whatever that new cable is called) to his 40" HDTV. then i put my SDTV next to his popped the AIR DVD into it and watched both at the exact same time. you know what? I didn't see a damn difference in quality or sound. So i thought "Oh its probably because its anime, lets try a video game." so i hooked up my 360 with all the standard stuff to my SDTV, and then hooked up his with again an HDMI cable to his HDTV. Again i saw no difference while playing dead rising on both at the exact same time. So i want one good reason why I should shell out $2,000 for a HDTV, $500 for a blu-ray player, and an extra $30 for every blu-ray video that looks the exact same as my 20" SDTV that was only $100 that came with a free dvd player?
Best Answer: You should probably invest into a new HDTV TV then. Lets look at the numbers first. A standard definition TV is only 480p. HDTV's have 720p to 1080i and 1080p. Also, HDTV's carry thousands of more colors then standard tv's carry with. In my opinion, you probably bought a cheap hd, which is no good. Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, others, is where it's at. I really don't care if you buy anything or not but I am certainly not going to pop an artery over if you buy an HD TV or not. I know how much better they are than the piece of crap tiny 20 inch set you are looking at but honestly, I don't think you deserve any better. LOL!! - Stephen M
I am unsure of exactly what happened there...but we bought a Sony Bravia HD television and the "WOW" Factor definitely applies. I cannot believe how clear the picture is. We watch National Geographic(in HD on our satellite HD box) on it and are continually blown away by the picture quality. Maybe you were watching on a poor quality HD TV? We went to the store and looked at all of the TV's to determine which one was best (my husband is slightly obsessive-compulsive). It payed off! We LOVE our HD TV and would NEVER go back. Sony Bravia, I tell you! - Leigh O
Dude! Calm down, you don't have to buy anything! You can just go without! - David W
Um... cartoons are not drawn in HD, and console games are designed to run at a specific resolution. There have only been a few true HD games. Maybe you should try a movie or an HD vs SD cable/satellite channel. Then you'd see an actual difference. - Vincent P
