Question and Answers

omnicloud Why is my subwoofer not working during a game (PS3)? - omnicloud I have a 5.1 speaker system hooked up to an A/V receiver and I have a PS3 hooked up to it. The setup is PS3 >HDMI> A/V receiver >HDMI> TV. With the PS3, everything functions perfectly when I play DVDs, Blu-Rays, music, videos on the hard drive, etc. But when playing games I noticed that there was no output from the subwoofer, making a huge lack in bass. All the other speakers work except the subwoofer. I've tried this in Rock Band 2, Killzone 2... there was only one game that the subwoofer was active in: Metal Gear Solid 4. This issue only happens in games. Details (if you want): Sony PlayStation 3 80GB Sony STRDG720 A/V Receiver Polk Audio RM6750 Home Theatre set (5.1) Sony Bravia KDL-40V5100 Step by step instructions would be wonderful, as I have little prior experience. Also, if I need to change settings on the receiver, I don't have a remote, because it was used.
Best Answer: You have your speakers set to large on the receiver. Normally the receiver comes set to large on the front speakers. The receiver will then send a full range signal to the front speakers and only send the sub a signal when the audio has a specific sub track. When the receiver is configured for small speakers it will analyze the audio and engage a crossover, sending everything below a certain frequency to the sub. The reason that metal gear solid was correctly played is because that game has a 5.1 audio signal, the .1 is the sub track. Your other games are either stereo(2.0) or 5.0 or something. Go into your receiver setup menu and reconfigure all your speakers for small. - Theaterhelp
