realshadow17 what home theater receiver to get? - realshadow17 hey everyone ok so i got 2 kenwood speakers and they are 6ohms and 125watts each. Im looking for a receiver and i was wondering does the receiver have to be 250watts to support my speakers? thanks
Best Answer: When looking for a receiver, make sure it is able to handle 6 ohm speakers (6 ohms is the impedance). The receiver should be 125 watts or less per channel (although it's better to overpower speakers rather than underpower them). It doesn't matter if it's less; the speakers just won't go quite as loud. Most receivers will be 5.1 or 7.1, and will have closer to 500 or 700 watts. If you're hooking your home theatre up via HDMI, you should look for a receiver with HDMI repeating. Not switching, but repeating. If you get a receiver with HDMI switching you will have to run the audio separately (via S/PDIF or optical toslink) and it won't be HD audio. I've got an Onkyo 606 ($550 Canadian on sale) that has 90 watts per channel, HDMI repeating, 2 zones, 7.1 surround, 3 HDMI inputs, etc. It's a great entry level receiver. - Solarisphere
Look into the Onkyo receivers there probably just as good as the Denon but a lot of time you can get a better discount on them. Wattage depends on how load you play it and how big your room is and what kind of absorption you have; ie carpet funiture curtains etc... - Lance
i recommend Denon AVR-789 630-Watt 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BNTVZU?ie=UTF8&tag=omegamenswatch-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001BNTVZU" - jeffy
