HP Laserjet 1160 print jobs unusually large? - chris Running a laserjet 1160 with the latest driver. Print jobs are taking forever to spool and print. I check the queue and something simple like 5 copies of a 1 page text file has a size of 20mb in the queue and the progress creeps from 100kb on up to 20mb before printing. Why are the sizes so large? Everything used to work fine. This is on two different computers printing to local printers. can't figure out why the heck the jobs are so large. A one page text doc spools at 4.19mb? the original file size is 89kb. I tried moving the port from a DOT4 to a virtual USB but it did not improve performance. Thanks for any help.

Best Answer: Have you tried teh PCL driver from http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=410620&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=410618&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=228 (assuming using XP, if not change OS on HP site) Also instead of choosing 4 copies from the "word" or "excel" print page, go into print properties to do it, that way it prints 1 page 4 times, word etc send the page 4 times ! - stu_the_kilted_scot

Don't buy HP. I've seen this problem a lot with their printers. To bypass the print spooler, go to the Properties page of the printer icon. Click on the Advanced tab, and select 'Print directly to the printer' option. - cartpauj
