J;sizzle Why can't I use the content that I download from Xbox Live? - J;sizzle I do not have internet at my place, i also do not have a Gold Membership on Live either... now saying that, if i want to Download anything i have been just bringing my Hard Drive + System over to a friend's place with the net and i down load away. That worked for awhile, but now, i can't use what i down load. Example: I downloaded: the 2 free Map Packs for Halo 3, got a gamestop code for the "Weapon X Arena" in X-men Origins:Wolverine, and tried to get the Optional Media Update: these files are there on my hard drive and i CAN use them if i am still connected to the internet. BUT as soon as i disconnect from the net and/or take my system home, that content is no longer able to be used...??? i tried deleting all that i couldn't use offline, and then just re-downloaded it all, still with the same results though... what gives???
Best Answer: OK, I need to clear a few things up. When you buy content from Live, it's not only linked to your gamertag and hard drive, it's also linked to whatever 360 the drive was attached to at the time. People first started noticing this when 360s were red ringing and the replacements MS sent them wouldn't play their DLC without them being connected to Live. I had it happen to mine and it was a pain in the butt. MS finally released what's called a license transfer which basically transfers the licenses to the new console or in your case, it will transfer them from your friends 360 to yours. What you need to do is go here http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/licensemigration/ and follow the steps to move the licenses to your 360. Make sure you take your ENTIRE 360 over to your friend's house. Be sure you take the whole thing over from now on when you want to download stuff or else you'll have the same problem again and since you can only do the transfer once a year, you won't be able to play that content offline at your house if you don't. So, take your 360 over to his house, transfer the licenses, and then you can play offline at home. Good luck. - Milk84
when you download something from xbox live the memory transfers to your harddrive but some settings sync with the system itself.I promise you that everything will work fine if you try it on your friends xbox but yea next time bring your entire system because the harddrive just stores memory alot of things you download goes into the system.
Most of what you download from Microsoft is tied to your account/gamertag, so when you use it, it tries to validate that the person who actually rented it is the one trying to use it. Yes I said rented, since you actually own nothing that you have downloaded, you are just paying for the right to use it. Therefore they are checking up on you to prove that you are the only one using it. It doesn't work without validation every time you boot it up. Full games are worse, as they are only playable in "demo" mode if you don't have an internet connection. - Moosecox
