MPT Problem when connecting computer audio to A/V Reciever? - MPT Problem when connecting computer audio Creative Blaster X-fi Fatal1ty to Yamaha RX-V363 Receiver: Center speaker does not play. I have a PC with Creative Sound Blaster X-fi Fatal1ty which has both digital coaxial and optical outputs. I connected my PC to Yamaha RX-V363 using optical cable (via CD optical input on V363). I configured 5.1 output on my sound card. The problem is whenever I play music on PC, the center speaker does not play( PCM and STRAIGHT appear on V-363's screen); only the left and and right speaker sound. But when the radio (AM/FM) is on, the center speaker can play. Is there something wrong with my setup or do I need to use the Creative Home theater cable instead of optical cable? Any help or suggestions would be really appreciated. Thanks
Best Answer: Try different surround modes when playing music from your PC. I know on my receiver, each input has a different default surround mode, so it could be that you have the default for your AM/FM set to a surround mode like Dolby Pro-Logic or one of the matrixed surround modes, but when you switch to your PC input the receiver defaults to stereo. In fact, "Straight" on the Yamaha receivers is a pure stereo mode, so you'll want to change that to match whatever your source is (pro-logic, DTS, etc). Check the manual, but you should be able to save the mode you select as the default when you switch the receiver to PC input so you won't have to change it every time you switch to your PC input. - countryfirst
Stereo sound (ie: Music) will only play through your front left and right speakers unless you matrix the sound using Dolby Pro Logic or similar matrixed surround technology. Your receiver can do it most likely and you could probably do it though your sound card also using its software. You have to matrix stereo to make it 5.1. DVD or other 5.1 mixed audio on your computer should play without having to do that. - D (A/V) ID
