AOC tv/monitor - no channel selection, Apex DT502 Digital tv converter, cable tv not recognised through box.? - Legend I put cable through the input of the digital tv converter box and output it up to the tv/monitor. I do the programming scan to find the cable channels on the converter - nothing registers. I had hoped to use the box as a channel selector for cable as it seems to be a logical way to translate the signals. As a temporary solution I am using a Sony VCR to do the channel selection, but I would like to find out whether I have an inoperative converter box or whether the boxes do not allow cable channel recognition and selection, or whether I have made the wrong connections or even the wrong assumptions.

Best Answer: If you're talking about the digital converter sold in the U.S. with a government coupon in connection with the June 12 digital TV cutover, that converter has an ATSC tuner, which is only used on over-the-air reception via an antenna. It does not work on cable. Your VCR is a fine detector for the analog channels on your cable. For the digital channels, you'll need a digital receiver supplied by and enabled by the cable company, plus a subscription to one of their digital channel packages. - kg7or
