♥ Venus ♥ Dynamic Contrast Ratio? - ♥ Venus ♥ Ok, I know the higher the better but really, how important is dynamic contrast ratio? My LG LCD has 50, 000:1 and it's very bright and sharp but how much does that have to do with the adjustments that I made in the settings or dynamic contrast ratio? If I had an LCD that was say, 10,000:1, would there be a big difference in the brightness or sharpness of the picture?
Best Answer: The definition of contrast ratio is the difference between the blackest black and the whitest white. Contrast ratio not only produces the levels of blacks and whites, but also helps saturate the colors as well. Making them more vivid and rich looking. TV's with low contrast ratios tend to have 'washed out' looking colors and 'greyed' blacks! Don't dwell on dynamic contrast ratio too much! It's a number that's achieved by unnatural means! Usually they put the TV in a light deprived room and measure it's ratio! This is not a number that you'll ever see in a home environment...not even at night with all lights turned off! When possible, look for a TV's native contrast ratio. This is a ratio that you will most likely see in a home environment! Not all manufacturers advertise their TV's native contrast ratio so if you curious, you'll need to look for the TV on display somewhere to see if it has your pic quality needs! As for the differences, the difference between 50,000:1 and 10,000:1 won't really be seen unless you have the two TV's right next to each other! Especially if you're talking about Dynamic contrast ratio. If it's native contrast ratio, then yes, you'll most likely see a difference! Hope this helps! - Cornelius
