Colette Netgear wireless router, internet lamp stays orange? - Colette I've reset the router, all the lights are on again but the light for the internet stays orange instead of green, which means I can't access the internet. But my laptop says it's connected with 54 mbps and the signal strength is excellent? How to fix this? Thx
Best Answer: Don't confuse your computers connection to the router (at 54mbs) with the ROUTERS connection to the internet. These are two different connections. If the router isn't connecting to the internet its because the ISP connection is not correctly set in the router. The orange light on the internet side of the router is the clue. Since you didn't say how you connect (DSL, CABLE) etc there isn't much more help we can give you. The WAN / Internet connection has to be set properly in the router. With DSL many times this will mean entering your Username and Password and using a PPPoE connection. With Cable in many cases all that is need is to reboot the cable router, wait for it to connect and then boot the router. That resets cable connections. So tell us what ISP or DSL Cable you use we can probably be of more help. Your wireless connection simply shows that you are communicating with the router.. not that the router is connected to the internet. - Tracy L
It sounds like your internet service is currently not working. Your laptop is reporting the signal strength connection to your router, not to the internet itself. There are 2 things you can try: 1. Plug the network cable from the back of your high speed cable modem directly to the back of your computer and see if you can get out to the internet. This will by-pass the router. 2. Call your internet service company as they can look-up your account and tell you if it's a service or outage issue. Good luck! - desertcities
