Thee Mexican Do Flat screens TV's need to have down-time? - Thee Mexican Hi, I just got a Dynex flat screen TV at Best Buy today. My old TV was the old Sony ones (90's model) and I decided to get with the times. The thing is to get space in my room I made my TV my computer and TV for my gaming system, so therefore it will have a lot of use. My sister who has a flat screen always advised me to turn of her TV because it gets hot and needs to rest. Is she telling the truth or just telling me that to save energy? Speaking of energy how are the flat screen TV's on energy? I have a 28 inch so it's not that big, but it's definitely bigger than my 17 inch monitor I had for my computer.
Best Answer: Some tvs are better then others on energy. I do believe plasmas are a little more expensive to run because they heat up the plasma and tend to run hotter as well. As far as running the tv for a long time I run mine a lot. The main thing you have to worry about is the life of the bulb which is around 50,000 hours. I wouldn't worry too much about it. On the other hand she may have a plasma and is worried about burn in which isn't as big a deal on most plasmas now but was on the older ones. Burn in is where a stationary picture would burn a permanent image on to the screen if left sat long enough. - fullmetaljacktt
